As the DMV closes down and social distancing becomes more of a must than a nice-to-have, I’ve felt the urge to try to help jazz musicians in the area who are facing weeks to months of “unemployment.” This blog is the only thing I can think of (for now).
DMV jazz musicians can use this space to promote anything that will help them make money: "tip jar" (Venmo/PayPal/etc.) info, links to online merch shops, links to Bandcamp/CD Baby/etc., information about virtual music lessons — whatever they’re willing to share. My hope is that this blog will become a kind of clearinghouse for those like me who want to support the community but don’t know where to start/how to help. It will stay active until gigs start up again. Everything will be listed in this one post (keep scrolling!), which will be updated as information comes in.
MUSICIANS: If you’re interested in “advertising” here, please send me whatever info you’d like to share. Be shameless!
EVERYONE: Please provide whatever support you can, and help spread the word about this blog!

Virtual Music Lessons
- Danielle Wertz (vocalist/songwriter), daniellewertzmusic@gmail.com, 571-214-3054, Skype/Zoom/FaceTime: "We can cover vocal technique, phrasing, basic music theory, what differentiates jazz singing from other styles, lyric writing, improvising / scat singing, mental health practices for musicians and sooooo many other things! Whatever you're interested in - let me know!!!"
- Wayne Wilentz (pianist), waynewilentz@gmail.com, 301-351-5903, $60/hr: "You tell me the song, style and key, I pre-record an mp3 accompaniment track here in my studio and send you the mp3. Then you play it on a separate device and sing for me so I can coach and help you with the performance, technique and anything else you feel like you need. At the allotted time, we jump on [Skype, FaceTime, or Zoom] and do the lesson as if I am playing for you live. Of course we can do multiple songs."
